The Apostolic Nuncio, who is leaving Cameroon to take up similar duties in Paraguay, has been in Cameroon for more than six years. Speaking to the press at the end of the audience, Eliseo Antonio ARIOTTI said that he was happy that the Head of State received him once more, as he came simply to bid farewell. He was delighted that relations between Cameroon and the Vatican were very good during his tenure, with the exchange of several high level visits.
He dwelt particularly on the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Cameroon in March 2009, which was a sign of the excellent relations between the State and the Church.
M. Eliseo Antonio ARIOTTI was decorated by the Head of State, who raised him to the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Valour. The President of the Republic equally had gifts for the departing diplomat.
Later in the afternoon, President Paul BIYA and his family took part at a mass that was offered by the Apostolic Nuncio at the Chapel in Mont Febe.
