The audience at Unity Palace on Tuesday 26 January 2010 started at 11 am and lasted for over one hour. Speaking to the press immediately afterwards, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs declared that he was the bearer of a special message was to confirm the brotherly and privileged relationship between Cameroon and Nigeria. The two countries had a firm determination to strengthen this cordial friendship, so as to guarantee a bright future for the two peoples.
OJO MADUEKWE declared that whatever affects Nigeria affects Cameroon, and for that reason he had to brief Cameroonian authorities on the happenings in Nigeria. He said that similar trips had been made to Ghana, Liberia, Togo and Gambia.
On the Greentree Agreement between the two countries, the Special Envoy announced the continuation of efforts on the ground to ensure that the people live in harmony for the peace and prosperity of Cameroon and Nigeria.
He was emphatic on the democratic progress of Nigeria, which is doing well despite the numerous problems being handled at the moment. The situation in Jos has been controlled by the authorities, under the leadership of the Vice President, and calm has returned to that beleaguered city.
The Nigerian Foreign Minister said that President Alhaji UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA is recovering well following his illness and will soon be back to the country from Saudi Arabia. He said that the recent interview of the Nigerian President on the BBC is eloquent testimony to the fact that his health is improving.
