The President of the Republic of Cameroon, His Excellency Paul BIYA, arrived in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on 28 November 2017. The Head of State was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Chantal BIYA, to take part in the 5th African Union - European Union Summit from 29 to 30 November 2017. The conclave will hold on the theme “Investing in Youth for a Sustainable Future”.

The Cameroonian Presidential Couple was welcomed at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan by the Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara, and his wife Dominique Ouattara. The two Presidential Couples, who are mutually appreciative, met briefly at the Presidential Lounge of the Airport, and will certainly have the opportunity to deepen these exchanges.

President Paul BIYA will participate in this Summit, alongside Heads of State and Government of Africa and Europe. The 5th AU-EU Summit deliberations will take place at the Sofitel Hotel - Abidjan. These will serve as a platform for dialogue between African and European countries with a view to boosting the partnership between the two Parties.

The challenges of the Abidjan Summit are very important for both Africa and Europe. As in previous meetings (Cairo in 2000, Lisbon in 2007, Tripoli in 2010 and Brussels in 2014), exchanges will revolve around the common challenges facing both continents, such as migration, peace and security, climate change, etc. Meanwhile, the leaders will also examine issues of common interests, including the search for sustainable, inclusive and job-creating growth for young people. As the theme indicates, the 5th AU-EU Summit will place special emphasis on investing in youth.
