Mr Abdou Abarry, United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) was received in audience at Unity Palace on 29 March 2023 by the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA.

The new UN Diplomat, an alumnus of the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC), said it was an absolute privilege and honour to have been received by the Head of State to whom he conveyed the special salutations of the UN Secretary General.

“I conveyed to him the special greetings of Mr Antonio Guterres – his good friend and a good friend of Cameroon,” he said.

The Head of UNOCA seized the opportunity to congratulate President Paul BIYA for his constant support for the growth of the region.

Mr Abdou Abarry highlighted Cameroon’s immense contribution for the resolution of difficulties faced by neighbouring countries through the provision of safe accommodation to thousands of refugees and the country’s effective presence in UN peacekeeping missions.

He expressed the gratitude of the UN to the Head of State and signalled his availability to work in close collaboration for the peace, stability and prosperity of Cameroon and the 11 countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
