In a moment of transcendent spiritual significance, President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya joined His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Pontifical Mass celebrated in Yaounde on 18 April 2026.
Surrounded by over a million faithful at Mvan 101 Airforce Base, the two leaders shared a moment of perfect communion, their presence symbolising the resplendent unity between Church and State.
As the Holy Father offered the sacred liturgy with solemn grace, President Paul Biya followed keenly in quiet reverence, visibly moved by the occasion. The air resounded with hymns of praise, chiefly in local dialects, suffused with the profound sense of fraternity that has long defined Cameroon’s spiritual heritage.
Following the Mass, the Holy Father expressed effusive gratitude for the generous hospitality extended by the Cameroonian people across all the sites he visited in Bamenda, Douala, and Yaounde.
In a private audience, President Paul Biya and Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to peace, concord, and interfaith harmony.
The Holy Father's historic apostolic journey to Cameroon will endure as a beacon of hope and spiritual renewal for the entire nation.
