Issa Hayatou, Ancien Président de la CAF

The Head of State, H.E. Paul BIYA received Mr. Issa Hayatou at Unity Palace on 8 October 2014 in his double capacity as the President of CAF and the Vice-President of FIFA.

With this compatriot, who has brought honour to his country and Africa for several decades on the international scene, the Head of State discussed football related issues in Africa, especially the organisation of the women and men’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

After this one-on-one meeting, the President of CAF did not hide his optimism on the capacity of Cameroon to meet the challenge, despite all the difficulties and setbacks. He told

the press: “The President has assured me that all will be done properly so that Cameroonians will continue to be proud of their country”.

The female AFCON was organised in a remarkable manner in Cameroon in 2016.

It is so far the best organised female football tournament in Africa. With the AFCON 2021, the Cameroon of Paul BIYA will once more produce a remarkable performance.

As a sign of destiny, the meeting between the Head of State and the President of CAF took place ten days after the publication of a decree of the President of the Republic setting up the National Football Academy (ANAFOOT), a structure dedicated to the training research and development of football, with Mr.

Issa Hayatou as the board chairman following his international retirement.
