AHMAD, Président de la CAF

Accompanied by the former Indomitable Lions striker Samuel Eto’o Fils, Mr Ahmad, then President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), was received in audience by the Head of State at the Unity Palace on 2 October 2018, five days before the presidential election.

At the end of a long discussion, Mr Ahmad was keen to encourage Cameroon, serenely engaged in the preparations for the AFCON, confident that the top body of African football “never thought of any withdrawal”, despite the conspiratorial manoeuvres of some compatriots who inject in public opinion all their hemlock to ostensibly malicious ends.

For reasons linked to a combination of imponderable factors, as explained by the Head of State in his message to the nation on 31 December 2018: “Based on certain information, the African Football Confederation decided that the date should be shifted. We have taken note of the decision. As I have already said, all investments relating to the organization of AFCON will be carried out. I avail myself of this opportunity to urge you to remain mobilized to ensure the eventual construction of our road, railway, hospital and sports infrastructure for this major event: our country deserves it indeed.”

Obviously, Cameroon and CAF are on the same wavelength

for the organisation of this event, because, as the former CAF president recalled, “football in Africa cannot develop without the support of political authorities, especially Heads of State.” This is true today...
