The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA and Madam Chantal BIYA returned to the nation’s capital on Sunday 18th May 2014 following their participation at the summit organised in Paris by French President François HOLLANDE. President Paul BIYA and the other Heads of State in attendance took a firm commitment to fight the Boko Haram insurgency which is causing so much violence and social disorder in Nigeria and which is already having a very negative impact on the neighbouring countries.

On hand to welcome the Presidential Couple at the airport was the President of the Senate, Marcel NIAT NJIFENJI; the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable CAVAYE YEGUIE DJIBRIL; the Prime Minister Head of Government, Philemon YANG; the Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand NGOH NGOH; and a host of other senior State personalities.

President Paul BIYA had audiences with the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the French Ambassador to Cameroon, Christine ROBICHON, the Prime Minister and the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic. While the audiences were going on, the First Lady had a get home chat with the wives of the close collaborators of the Head of State.

The Presidential Couple acknowledged the presence of cheering militants from the Mfoundi and Mefou Afamba Divisions before driving back to Unity Palace.

Meanwhile the Head of State has sent a message of thanks to the French President François HOLLADE for the timely organisation of this summit on the security situation in Nigeria. He is happy to note the convergence of views on the necessity to intensify the fight against terrorism by Boko Haram and hopes that the very important decisions taken at the summit will contribute to the eradication of this scourge.
