The Head of State met the outgoing Russian Diplomat on 26 October 2023 at Unity Palace.

His Excellency Paul BIYA and Ambassador Anatoly Bashkin made a review of the latter’s 6-year mission to Cameroon with a particular focus on the Presidential Couple’s participation at the second Russia-Africa Summit organised in July 2023.

Both personalities examined the issues President Paul BIYA and his Russian counterpart H.E. Vladimir Putin raised in Saint Petersburg to consolidate the mutually rewarding cooperation ties between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters after the 2-hour audience, Ambassador Anatoly Bashkin acknowledged the expansion of bilateral ties. He said both governments are currently working on the directives of their respective Heads of State, following the Saint Petersburg meeting, to boost economic cooperation, especially in the production, transformation, and preservation of agricultural products in Cameroon.

The Russian Diplomat announced preparations for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Yaounde and Moscow next year. This will lead to the establishment of the first Cameroon-Russia Mixed Commission and the organisation of a Cameroon-Russia Forum.

President Paul BIYA and his guest also touched on recent events on the international stage and their impact on the African continent.
