The President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience to visiting American Deputy Assistant Secretary of State David GILMOUR on Saturday 1st March 2014.

Speaking to the press shortly afterwards, David GILMOUR praised the role played by Cameroon in the Central African Republic, as well as in other security related issues in the region. The American envoy said that they discussed the situation in the Northern part of the country where insurgents of the Boko Haram movement from Nigeria are present. Security in the Gulf of Guinea also featured in their discussions. 

Responding to questions from the press, David GILMOUR revealed that the US President Barack OBAMA has already designated a new Ambassador to Cameroon, but his nomination is currently being reviewed by the US Senate.
