A delegation of election observers from the Commonwealth of Nations was received on Friday 4 October 2013 at Unity Palace by the President of the Republic His Excellency Paul BIYA. Led by Mr. IRFAN Abdul Rahman, President of the electoral commission of Mauritius, the team has been in Cameroon for the past week to accompany the country in the twin elections of 30 September 2013.

Speaking to the press shortly after the discussions with President Paul BIYA, Mr. IRFAN Abdul Rahman described Cameroon’s elections as the best in Africa, and indicated that he was going to make a detailed report to the Commonwealth Secretariat.

He revealed that he had the opportunity to learn the Cameroonian experience in his capacity of the president of the electoral commission of Mauritius and that this was a very useful experience for him. He was happy that Cameroonians displayed a lot of political maturity during the campaign and on the voting day.
