The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience to a special envoy of Gambian President Yahya JAMMEH, Madam Susan WAFFA-OGOO, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Thursday 11 April 2013. The Gambian Minister brought a sealed message from the leader of that country to the Head of State

Speaking to the press at the end of the audience that lasted over one hour, Madam Susan WAFFA-OGOO said that she felt very honoured to have been received by President Paul BIYA, to whom she brought a message of friendship and fraternity from the Gambian President, Yahya JAMMEH. The Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the message she came to deliver was intended to strengthen the cooperation ties between the two countries.

The Gambian envoy declared the intention of her country to follow the example of Cameroon in several domains. This is the case with agriculture, where, according to Madam WAFFA-OGOO, the progress enjoyed by Cameroon enabled the country to have food security for the population. Gambia will also want to benefit from the experience of Cameroon in the domain of energy where the country has a lot of potential. Finally, the example of Cameroon in the management of issues related to the youth is important, as this category of the population grows exponentially, with a resultant multiplicity of problems.

Madam WAFFA-OGOO also indicated that their discussions also reviewed South – South cooperation. The common membership of both countries to the African Union and the Commonwealth was also reason for the two countries to have mutually beneficial cooperation.
