The Head of State His Excellency Paul BIYA granted audience on Tuesday 23 September 2014 to Prime Minister Gabriel Da Costa of Sao Tome and Principe, bearer of a special message from President Manuel Pinta Da Costa to his Cameroonian counterpart.

Speaking to the press shortly after the discussions that lasted over thirty minutes, Gabriel Da Costa said that the message he brought concerned the bilateral relations. He continued that Sao Tome and Cameroon have good relations and belong to the same sub-region. It was therefore normal for the two countries to hold close consultations on issues that involve the sub-region.

The Prime Minister of Sao Tome revealed that he took the opportunity to manifest the support and solidarity of his government and people to Cameroon following the repeated attacks from terrorists of the Boko Haram insurgency. He praised President Paul BIYA for the salutary strong and efficient measures he has undertaken to eliminate that scourge.

Answering a question on the integration of Sao Tome and Principe into the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), in which his country currently has observer status, he said that that the process is irreversible and that his country is preparing seriously to become a full member of the prestigious community.
